This morning a call came to the Hastings 911 Center, a person identified themselves as a teacher in a specific room at Hastings High School. The 911 center was immediately suspicious as the name of the teacher and the room number do not exist. The caller said there was an active shooter at the high school. The School resource officer was in the school at this time and all other HPD officers were dispatched to the school. The school was immediately placed in the lockdown procedure.
Due to the nature of the call all HPD staff are going room to room in the building to ensure the safety of all students and staff. HPS Administration and HPD Administration are working together to notify students, parents, and members of the public on the factual information. There will be an active investigation into this call that HPD will conduct. There will be a high presence of police officers at the school to monitor the safety of all students and staff members as well as to answer questions.
Because of previous planning between HPD and HPS, procedures were in place that helped to maintain a calm atmosphere throughout this event. At this time, there is no credible threat at Hastings High School.
